Telus just rolled out their firmware update for the S8 and S8+ smartphone devices that has been labeled as a “network enhancements and bug fix update”. However, what this actually means is that Telus included support for their new Quad-Band LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) data networks. LTE-A quad’s theoretical speeds can reach speeds of up to 750 Megabits per second (Mbps).

In real life usage users will experience download data speeds ranging between 22 to 174 Mbps. Bell Canada released support for the new upgraded service at the end of April.

Telus stated that they are “the first network in North America capable of delivering quad-band LTE Advanced (LTE-A) services [starting with] the Samsung Galaxy S8.”
