The Essential Phone has finally been reduced in it’s cost. This high-end Android smartphone began shipping to customers in late August. The original cost of the phone was $699 but some retailers were already starting to discount the devices by $100 soon after. Today, we are happy to see a permanent drop in price by a whopping $200 which makes it a more reasonable $499 smartphone.

Niccolo de Masi, president of Essential, has satted that anyone who purchased the Essential phone before Oct. 22 will receive a “Friends and Family” code for usage on their store. The code reduces the cost of your next Essential phone purchase, this means that any new purchases reduces the Essential Phone’s cost from $499 to a mind boggling $299 price tag. You can also use the code, if you receive one, for purchase of the Essential 360 Camera add-on which was designed for the Essential Phone. This coupon would make the 360 camera add-on practically free. Folks who are eligible must hop on The Essential’s website and submit their information to claim the $200 store code before November 15.

The Essential Phone, in term’s of sales, haven’t seen much success this year so it is pretty clear as to why the company decided to slash it’s costs for their flagship phone. We are talking about less than two months after the first units began shipping. The heavy hype of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also affected the sales and presence of the Essential Phone.

The Essential Phone, despite it’s sales woes, brings some impressive specifications. This includes: a near-bezel-free 5.71 inch display, 128 GB of internal storage, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, and a well-designed body built out of titanium frames and a ceramic shell. The software, being stock android, did not bring anything interesting. It also took the company several updates to fix the array of issues that plagued it’s camera function. The company has promised more updates into the future.

Now that we have a new $499 price tag for the Essential Phone would you be interested in buying one instead of the more expensive Galaxy S8 flagships? How do you feel about the software and build of the phone? Let us know in the comments below!
